GSIS 10 Year Anniversary Yearbook: Memories | Page 210

For the past 10 years, seniors have rose up to lead victories, creating a strong reputation for the boys varsity team. One thing that all these seniors had in common is that they were all once freshman. John Park, Jeff Jin, Samuel Lee, were the only seniors on the team. Due to the larger number of younger players, John and Jeff expressed that they were initially concerned that they would have to watch over a larger group. However, John explained that he soon realized that he didn’ t have to because the team was already“ pretty knit together” and
therefore“ There wasn’ t too much responsibility.”
“ We all respect each other and we all know what to do. Everybody has their responsibilities,” said John.
Jeff on the other hand said“ Even though I’ m a senior, this is only my second year on the team, so I feel responsibility not as a senior, but as a player on the team. So I just want to work hard because
I feel that seeing the worst player work hard is just as impacting as seeing the best player work hard.” Fortunately, it is not only the seniors who feel that they are handling the team well. Zachariah Ward said,“ John’ s a really good captain and he was the captain for volleyball as well so I think he has a lot of experience in leading a team. He does a really good job of that. And I think the other seniors, especially Jeff, does a really good job of keeping the team together and always having a positive attitude. So I think despite our lack of older players, we have good leaders because of the experience and personalities of the seniors.”
Ben agreed with Zachariah, complimenting Jeff for constantly being a positive force on the team and encouraging the juniors, sophomores, and freshmen to the best of his abilities.
“ And even when they mess up he doesn’ t get mad and just tells them to try better next time,” said Ben.
Ben also spoke about John and how his encouragement and bright outlook, especially after games they lost, helped the team stay strong together.“ Even after games we lose, he always tells players that they did a good job and he encourages them more to get better,” said Ben.

The best part about the soccer season was not just about winning every match and finishing well in the tournaments. The best part was running the 90 minutes with like-minded and passionate teammates who always had my back, no matter what the results were.

Jeff Jin skillfully dribbles the ball away from the SIS player who marked him. Although the Knights lost this game, they won against APIS the next day.

It is a privilege for the current soccer players to play as a GSIS varsity player, so I just want them to enjoy and try as hard as they can to win the championship.
