Growth of Mass Media in the Learning Process

Technology plays a very significant part in the proliferation of mass media in modern Times. The mass media has revolutionized people's way of life and it has really engrossed every facet of human life. It has become so dominant that none of the human activity can be completed without accessing the help of mass media. Computer-based technologies cannot be regarded as “media,” because the variety of programs, tools, and devices that can be used with them is neither limited to a particular symbol system, nor to a particular class of activities...... In this light, “the computer” is in fact a “multifaceted invention” of many uses, a symbolic tool for making, exploring, and thinking in various domains. It is used to represent and manipulate symbol systems – language, mathematics, music – and to create symbolic products – poems, mathematical proofs, compositions. The realization of world as a global village is also a product of mass media which has taken several forms to cater to human needs. The main devices of mass media are the radio, the television, the newspaper and the computer. As the 21st century begins, many of the most vexing problems confronting humanity in the 20th century have not been resolved. Among these problems of serving the educational needs of children and adults in different parts of the world. Education is among the highest priority human needs for a number of reasons, including the empowerment of people to change their life situations, the enhancement of national economic growth, and the promotion of sustainable development.
