Remaking BP in Singapore

In 2002, Wu was later named President and Country
Head for BP Singapore to plan and manage the
company’s exit from the downstream business.
Wu found himself with the additional challenge
to reposition BP and to envision its new future in
Singapore. Together with his senior colleagues,
they focused on what made BP special and strong.
as the basis for BP’s reputation for having
a “family” foundation. They would form the
foundation for the company’s knowledge strategy
and re-building. “We became asset light but
remain business heavy. We expanded trading and
supply activities, grew the lubricants business,
and maintained the marine and aviation
fuel headquarters in Singapore,” said Wu.
The company has the feel of a family bound
together by a strong set of values. If you speak to
anyone who has been working in BP for some time,
you will hear the reference to family quite a bit.
Wu also highlighted a number of vital knowledgebased functions performed out of Singapore in
support of BP’s businesses around the region
and the world: audit, tax, legal, information
technology (IT), compliance and human resources.
