As the memory of this summer’s World Cup start to
fade, in this issue we take a look at when the competition was a much simpler affair. In 1966 no new
stadiums were built, Fanzones were unheard of and
FIFA didn’t dominate the proceedings like an overbearing parent.
For the first time in many years a new season has
started with no new League grounds for fans to
visit. The return of former League stalwarts Luton
Town and Cambridge United, combined with no
relocations of existing clubs, signals a hiatus in the
stadium building boom of the last two decades.
And this situation may endure for another couple of
seasons while we wait for the London big guns to
deliver their new super stadiums.
