I
n years to come, when we look back at the typical non-league
stand architecture from the turn of the century, I suspect we
will think of it as bland, uniform and anonymous. An exception
will almost certainly be Ilkeston Town’s new Clock Tower
stand, completed in the summer of 2000.
Built into one corner of their nine-year-old New Manor Ground,
functionality is accompanied by originality of design and attention
to detail. The most striking feature is the clock tower itself, which
joins the new stand and the recently built covered end terrace.
