By tapping a wellspring of youthful talent , Greenville Family Theater intends to bring magic to the stage later in November with its musical production of “ Frozen Jr .”
“ Frozen Jr .” tells the tale of two princess sisters , Elsa and Anna . Elsa possesses a magical power to freeze people and objects , but she inadvertently places her kingdom into a perpetual deep freeze . Only through self-sacrifice and realizing the warming power of true love can she save her sister and the kingdom .
The production will be the theater company ’ s first off-season show . Greenville Family Theater , which has operated for seven years , typically produces one summer show each year . This year , the company decided to test its capability to do more . It is condensing into three months what generally is done in six .
“ We ’ ve been talking about doing an off-season show … for a few years now ,” said co-director Audra Tibboel . “ It just seemed we needed to start off with a big one . Frozen ’ s a pretty big splash .” Tibboel shares director duties with co-director Haley Johnson .
Said Amy Smith Hale , the company ’ s creative director : “ It felt like the right time to do it . We were looking around at the community interest , the cast and the talent we had available , and we looked at lot of MTI ( Music Theatre International ) junior shows . They ’ ve got a wide selection , a lot of great things , but this one just felt right . And I ’ m so glad we decided to do it .”
The theater has assembled a cast of 37 young people ranging in age from 7 to 17 . The young performers come from Greenville and across the area – places such as Caddo Mills , Royse City , Sulphur Springs , Commerce , Lone Oak , and Quinlan .
The characters Elsa and Anna will be played by four young women . The role of Anna will be played by Annabelle Brown and Larissa Hyde . Elsa will be portrayed by Adelle Money and Avery Tibboel . Each actress will give two performances .
One of the greatest challenges posed by ‘ Frozen ’ is in nailing the demanding vocals .
