Newcastle International College and University of Canterbury International College, together with the University of New Caledonia, recently obtained grant funding from the French Embassy in Canberra to host an undergraduate research conference in March 2021.

Undergraduate research, defined as the contribution of undergraduate students to scholarship, has been growing in popularity. The benefits to students are self-evident, and include developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills help students when navigating university, but they are critical for tomorrow’s professional working life.

PacificFutures will provide a digital platform for undergraduate students from any disciplinary background to engage with the question of how the Southwest Pacific region might confront the challenges of tomorrow, such as

climate change, economic crisis, resource scarcity, population pressures, geopolitical realignment and rapid social change. Papers presented at PacificFutures will be published in a bilingual edited volume by UNC University Press.

This is an outstanding opportunity for diploma or bachelor students from Navitas colleges across Australasia seeking to contribute to scholarship and public debate.
