Ottumwa High Theatre The Ottumwa High School Drama Department and Thespian Troupe 615 is made up of students in grades 9-12 and produces between two and three shows per year . The students also compete in the IHSSA Large Group / Individual Speech Contest and induct a new bunch of thespians every spring . The Ottumwa High School ’ s theater department was honored at the 2018 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase for its October 2017 production of “ The Addams Family .” They were again honored in 2020 by the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards for the production of " The 25th Annual Putnam Co . Spelling Bee ." The production received a Distinguished Scene Award for the opening number . The ensemble also received special recognition . Ottumwa Municipal Band The Ottumwa Municipal Band is comprised of adult musicians from Ottumwa , Bloomfield , Fairfield , Fremont and other neighboring communities . While the group does hold auditions as a formality , anyone over 18 is welcome to join the group . Members range from Realtors , to stay-at-home parents , to teachers . The Ottumwa Municipal Band has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating municipal band in the state of Iowa . Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra The Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra presents seven concerts annually in Ottumwa , including subscription concertsin October , March and May ; a Holiday Kick-Off concert in November ; the Christmas Ball in December ; and two Music on the Green no-admission concerts in June and September . The symphony is under the direction of conductor and music director Dr . William LaRue Jones and associate director David Sharp , Indian Hills professor of instrumental music . The board also sponsors a variety of events each year including Divas Who Dish in April and 25 Men Who Can Cook in June . Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra For more than 60 years , the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra has provided the citizens of Burlington , Ottumwa , Mount Pleasant and their surrounding communities with the opportunity to understand and experience classical music through rural outreach , educational opportunities and quality musical performances . They are proud to offer concerts that are engaging and fulfilling for newcomers and seasoned musicians alike . Temple of Creative Arts The Temple of Creative Arts is Ottumwa ' s newest creative space for art , music , dancing and theater . The venue is available for rental and can host a variety of events from performances to pop-up shops . The venue can host small intimate gatherings or parties of up to 200 people in three distinct areas . The theater features restored oak flooring , theatrical lighting and unique architectural features ; the boardroom is a multipurpose room featuring bright lighting and flexible seating ; and The Garden Terrace Patio is an outdoor space with party lighting and a terraced garden .
Ottumwa Area Arts Council The Ottumwa Area Arts Council is a nonprofit organization which has served Wapello County since 1974 . The purpose of the council is to enhance an appreciation of the arts and humanities in the greater Ottumwa area . The council strives to serve all people in the Ottumwa area from youth through senior citizens , from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds . The board includes members from the surrounding communities of Agency , Eldon and Hedrick , as well as Ottumwa . The Ottumwa Arts Council hosts Battle of the Brushes , an annual competition where artists are given 90 minutes to paint a canvas related to a theme . Paintings are then live-auctioned , with half the proceeds going to the Ottumwa Area Arts Council and half to each participating artist .
