AMERICAN GOTHIC PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
American Gothic Performing Arts Festival Through the years the American Gothic Performing Arts Festival has established itself as a cultural destination event for not only the residents of Wapello County , but for people from all over Iowa and beyond . Each year , folks come together to celebrate the performing arts in an open and friendly atmosphere . World-renowned as the setting for Grant Wood ’ s painting “ American Gothic ,” Wapello County provides a nostalgic setting for audiences and performers alike with its natural beauty , abundance of preserved historical architecture and impressive selection of performance venues ( and so many welcoming communities !).
Indian Hills Theatre Each year , students at Indian Hills perform two to three full productions . Students also gain hands-on experience in the technical aspects of theater , including makeup , set and scenic design and construction , costume design , special effects design , and lighting , sound and operations . Theatre production seasons include contemporary / modern theatre , Shakespeare and period plays , and Tony Award-winning Broadway musicals . The students have performed in “ The Man who Came to Dinner ,” “ Legally Blonde , The Musical ,” “ She Kills Monsters ,” “ A Midsummer Night ’ s Dream ,” “ Dracula ,” “ Fame , The Musical ,” “ The Taming of the Shrew ,” and , most recently , “ Pippen .” “ Jane Eyre ” is their upcoming production . Ottumwa Area Community Choruses ( Adult chorus / Children ' s chorus ) These two community choruses provide singing and performance opportunities for both children and adults from this area . The OACC ' s mission is to make the joy of performing high quality choral music available to everyone , and thereby enrich the cultural life of our community . As a non-auditioned chorus , they inspire singers at all levels of ability to improve their vocal technique through informative rehearsals and performances of a wide variety of music , including sacred and secular , classical and popular , and historic and contemporary .
OACC holds its annual concert in November . Other performance opportunities are available throughout the year with
20 GOPIP Investor Directory 2023-24 an average of six to eight performances annually . Typical additional performances include collaborations with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra , AGPAF , and the Ottumwa Municipal Band . Both choirs are directed by Dr . Christine Bergan . Ottumwa Community Children ' s Playhouse Sit back and enjoy talent way beyond its years . The Children ’ s Playhouse , now in its 18th season , presents multiple performances each year at the Bridge View Center of Ottumwa . Each performance is produced without adult cast members . Past performances include “ Oliver Twist ,” “ The Wizard of Oz ,” “ The Best Christmas Pageant Ever ,” “ Disney ' s 101 Dalmatians ,” “ Jack and the Magic Beans ,” “ The Pied Piper ,” “ Tom Sawyer ,” “ Madagascar , A Musical Adventure Jr .” among many others . In addition to its performances , the Ottumwa Community Children ’ s Playhouse also puts on dances throughout the school year and hosts a summer camp . Ottumwa Community Players Ottumwa Community Players is a nonprofit community theater group made up entirely of local volunteers . The organization has produced shows at Bridge View Center as well as more intimate venues such as Market on Main and Hotel
