Nestled into the rolling hills of southeastern Indiana , New Washington Elementary is a small-town school with world class aspirations . Here , approximately 320 students attend preschool through fifth grade . A dedicated , professional staff guides students through best practice curricula while encouraging students to become world citizens . An enthusiastic PTO and supportive community contribute time and resources , weaving school and community together .
As a Greater Clark school , New Washington Elementary is engaged in a “ one to one ” technology initiative , in which each student in kindergarten through fifth grade is provided a Chromebook . This allows teachers to use the ever-growing internet resources to enhance and supplement the regular classroom curriculum . In addition , students in all grades are guided through ongoing computer skills , coding lessons , and safe internet practices through a weekly technology class .

Because reading is basic to all academic growth , New Washington Elementary provides programs which foster reading for both academic achievement and personal enjoyment . In addition to a daily 90-minute reading block , students receive individualized instruction during a program called IMPACT . Through these classes , students meet in small groups to reach individualized goals . Further , reading programs incentive and encourage students to read independently inside and outside of school .
In addition to core subjects , students receive instruction in art , music , physical education and library . Student behavioral expectations are addressed through the PRIDE ( Perseverance , Respectfulness , Initiative , Dependability , and Efficiency ) program . The PRIDE program offers rewards and incentives as students strive to become productive citizens of the school and community .
Looking for supervised after school opportunities ? NWES offers after school activities that appeal to many students . Athletics include cross country , basketball , volleyball , wrestling , track , and cheerleading . Other activities include chorus , art , robotics , archery , Circle the State , science club , student ambassadors , Honor Council , peer tutoring , and a competitive academic team . Communities in Schools also offers parents child care services in our building after school each day .
