reason reputable moving companies use quality
materials,” Scadden says. No matter how carefully
you pack a box, if the box isn’t in good condition
and your tape isn’t strong, you may find yourself
holding an empty box with its contents all over the
floor. Not exactly a great start to your move.

If you’ve moved even once, you probably know that it can be
a very stressful time. Moving your entire home is not only time
consuming, but can put your belongings at risk if it isn’t done
properly. Bryan Scadden, co-owner of Burke Moving & Storage,
sat down with me to offer tips for a smoother, safer move.

to decorate.”
Finally, plan your move. Look at the available space in your
moving truck, and determine how to best maximize the space
while keeping your belongings safe. “Don’t just play ‘Tetris:
Moving Edition,’” Scadden warns. “The first priority is arriving
at your new home safely with your items unharmed. It might
mean making more than one trip to finish the move, but it can
also mean not making a trip to the store to replace items that got
broken along the way!”
TIP NUMBER 2:
Invest in proper packing materials. “People think boxes, pads,
and tape are expensive, and that getting free or inexpensive
materials is a great place to save some money—but there’s a
