Issue Sponsor: Accomplishments: • Successfully implemented new Chamber Awards during the Annual Banquet • Planned and hosted the 2014 Business Week Select Chamber Business Council: The Chamber of Commerce was a valuable resource of information when my husband and I were bitten by the entrepreneur bug during the late 1980’s. Our need to network with other small businesses was met with the array of opportunities that the Chamber provided. Our situation was not unique and I felt compelled to give back to the associations and organizations that have led to our success over the years. That included the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce and the Business Council. As a small business owner of several companies you wear a lot of hats and I think this really helps you to understand the challenges others may be needing help with. Amber Nuse from McGee Hearne & Paiz, LLP and Max Carre from Burns Insurance Agency presented the 2014 Chamber Spirit Award during the 2014 Annual Banquet to the winner, Tom Bass from Wyoming Bank & Trust. Committee Highlight: Business Council during 2014 has allowed me to see firsthand the commitment level of our Chamber Staff and its Board of Directors. It’s not often that a clear vision of likeminded individuals can get together, brainstorm and see projects through to fruition. Learning from the previous Chairman what an invaluable tool and following the progress of other committees has also been rewarding. Sometimes it takes a village and other times just one individual’s input makes a world of difference when you’re all working toward a common goal. PG 54 l Expanding Your Influence Chairman Challenges: Keeping a project foremost on an agenda is always a challenge. The members of the Chamber Business Council, both veterans and new, are committed to completing projects that propel Cheyenne Business Community into a positive and solid growth pattern. Addressing economic growth on behalf of a community the size of Cheyenne may be an ongoing challenge but the goal of this committee is to work with several entities with similar interests of seeing Cheyenne and Laramie County with a clear and defined plan for the future. Advice from the Chairman: I’m by no means an expert on any one area but without individuals that are willing to step up to the plate and donate a little of their time and knowledge, progress is hard to achieve. Sometimes we just need to put personal agenda aside and act on whatever you have to offer. We may not all be public speakers, the most knowledgeable on a subject but sometimes you can learn a lot by listening and putting a plan of action together with the aid of others. It’s a rewarding feeling to know you have made a difference and anyone who is interested in working with a great bunch of business minded professionals that are committed to economic growth should consider the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Business Council. It’s a rewarding and exciting way to get involved and stay involved in our community. CHEYENNE PROFESSIONAL NETWORK Provides networking opportunities and an awareness of other Cheyenne organizations to newcomers and young professionals. This is an auxiliary group, therefore inviting participation from non-chamber members. Applications are required and accepted twice a year.
