paign. Once again, Athens responded the way it always had by coming together. Donations were raised, support poured in, and a plan was set in motion to create a lasting bronze version. To complete the restoration, the council contacted sculptor J. D. Flynn of Jade Patinas. With great care, he carefully removed the little fiddler from its base, beginning the process that would ensure the beloved figure could continue watching over the courthouse square and the music for generations to come.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Athens Old Fiddlers Reunion is its ability to connect and bridge generations. Young musicians learn tunes from elders, while longtime competitors return to mentor newcomers. The event demonstrates how traditional arts remain vibrant when communities actively support them.
The upcoming 95th Athens Old Fiddlers Reunion marks both a milestone and a turning point into a new era. Scheduled for April 17th & 18th 2026, the event will continue its historic competitions, performances, and family friendly activities while emphasizing the newly named Lone Star Fiddle Championship.
Looking Toward the Centennial
