12) deserves acknowledgement for his positive attitude and ability to inspire the team in the face of adversity, and Louis Le Deux( Year 12), who picked the game up only this year, was one of our most influential players.
Winter tennis and table tennis had successful seasons, winning most of their fixtures, while fencing continued to grow, with approximately 75 participants involved in the program. Our boys continually develop their skills in this sport, and regular competition has resulted in many medals, particularly in the junior divisions.
The gymnastics squad also showed some developing talent in the lead-up meets and schools’ invitational events. Jack Harvey( Year 9), competing as an A division gymnast, turned in the best performance by a Scotch boy for many years, achieving three first places, two seconds and a third across the six apparatuses, and comprehensively winning the individual competition. Our squad has shown some significant improvement over the last 12 months, with an increased competition focus to complement their training.
Some highlights at our under-age level included undefeated seasons by the 9A Soccer and 7 / 8A Hockey teams. The Year 8 Rugby team won all but one game, and hopefully will continue to develop in future years to lift the performance of rugby union at Scotch. The 5th XVIII Football team defeated Xavier College, with five exchange students from Germany involved in this memorable win.
The following boys from Scotch represented the APS schools against the AGS schools:
• Basketball: Edward Savage( Year 12)
• Cross country: Ed Besicher( Captain), Charlie Schilling, Archie Wallis( Year 12)
• Football: Will Clark, Charlie Cormack, Noah Croes, Hugh Longbottom( all Year 12)
• Hockey: Antony Lake( Year 11), Adam Ho( Year 12)
• Soccer: Nick Shearer
We thank all boys from Year 7 to Year 12 for their efforts in representing Scotch College with pride in our winter sport. As the weather warms, our boys have moved on to the spring season, with water polo and athletics taking centre stage.
