Chinese New Year Dinner —
a first, and a great success
The inaugural Scotch Family Chinese New Year
Dinner on 23 February, hosted by the Old Scotch
Collegians’ Association, was a great success, with
the Cardinal Pavilion packed with 147 boys, parents
and other Scotch Family members.
Principal Tom Batty welcomed guests, who
enjoyed a delicious three-course Chinese meal
accompanied by fine wines, and were entertained
by a traditional Lion Dance performance. Guest
speakers Derek Leong (‘69) and Danny Tan (‘04)
spoke affectionately about their experiences at
Scotch in very different eras, providing a wonderful
insight into the strong connections the school has
across the breadth of our community. After dinner
there was plenty of time for networking before
the end of a most enjoyable evening of fun and
friendship.
Special thanks go to our hard working
organising committee — Michelle Zheng, Susan
Ginn, Jessie McPhee, Katrina Gu and Bec Marshall
— whose efforts ensured the success of this
new event for Scotch. And it won’t be the last —
feedback has been very positive, and OSCA looks
forward to staging the dinner again in 2018,
the Year of the Dog.
