Club Stalwarts earn Merit Awards 2016 OSCA Merit Awards Gary Robert Bennett (‘88) began playing with the Old Scotch Cricket Club in his first year after leaving Scotch, and has played for the club for 28 consecutive years. In that period he has won the club’s bowling averages 16 times, played in six premierships, and was named in the club’s team of the century in 1999. The club’s archives are incomplete, but it is estimated that Gary has taken about 400 wickets in his 28 years with Old Scotch. He was made a life member of the Old Scotch Cricket Club at the end of the 2015/16 season, in which the club once again won the MCC Club XI premiership. Gary is a former President of the McLeod Club, which supports cricket at Scotch. One of Gary’s incentives to continue playing then Senior Vice President to David McCleery from 2012 to 2014. He was club Secretary in 2014, and Secretary and Chair of Committee in 2015 and 2016. As well as his senior roles with the club, Don has been a highly efficient match day statistician since 2009. His contributions to OSCA have included chairing the working group which set up OSCA’s Life Transitions program, which offers Old Boys the opportunity both to give and receive professional care at all stages of their lives. Richard Gordon Snape (‘81) was a founding member of the Old Scotch Soccer Club in 1981, and throughout the club’s history he has either been a committee member or has been closely with Old Scotch is one day to play in the same team as his sons, Nicholas (Scotch, Year 9) and involved with running the club. Richard was a key contributor to establishing the club in the amateur Joel (Scotch, Year 7). Donald Skene Larkin (‘62) has been a leagues, and has supported it behind the scenes and on the sidelines over the past three and a half committee member of the Old Scotch Football Club since 2008. He has held various roles on the decades. Recently, Richard played a leading role in the committee including governance and planning in 2009, during which he conducted workshops leading to creation of the club’s vision, mission and values. Don provided strong support for then club President, James Macmillan, in 2010 and 2011 when the club implemented the Leading Teams initiative for the playing group, designed to modify the culture of the club.
