Another successful
Scotch Foundation
Australian Art Show
The Scotch Foundation celebrated its 2018
Australian Art Show, held from 31 May to 3 June, with
a drinks party on 31 May in the Foyer of the Sir Zelman
Cowen Centre for Science. The Art Show was again
most successful, raising more than $100,000 in support
of the Indigenous Scholarship Fund and Tiwi College.
The Atrium and the David Zeidler Auditorium proved
to be a perfect setting for the four-day exhibition, which
also included a cocktail party for all parents and friends
of the Junior and Senior School community on the
Saturday evening.
Auntie Zeta performed the Welcome to Country,
paying respect to the traditional landowners of the
Kulin nation. She shared with her audience an insight
into the vital role of art in Indigenous culture, which has
for thousands of years relayed its stories and beliefs
through a visual medium.
31 MAY - 3 JUNE 2018
World renowned didgeridoo player Will Barton’s
superbly haunting performance held his audience
spellbound.
Although not part of her official mayoral duties,
recently elected Lord Mayor of Melbourne and past
parent, Sally Capp, was delighted to open the Art Show.
As all proceeds are directed towards the Scotch
College Indigenous Scholarship Fund and Tiwi College,
it was particularly pleasing that Tiwi College students in
Melbourne on exchange were present at the opening.
The Tiwi students were also clearly captivated by Will
Barton’s didgeridoo solo, clambering for front row
positions to make sure they could absorb it all.
We sincerely thank all those involved in the many
months of organisation it takes to hold an event of this
complexity: the organising committee, Scotch College
staff, and, of course, the 53 artists from around Australia
whose works were exhibited.
