Drama Making fun of the horror and mystery genre: Be My Ghost In the final week of Term 1, the Year 8 Play, Be My Ghost, was performed in the James Forbes Academy’s Geoffrey McComas Thetare. Presented in conjunction with Methodist Ladies’ College, the production was a mystery comedy spoof set in a haunted hotel. Written by Tim Kelly, this show was a comic take on classic horror and mystery genre plays. Be My Ghost tells the story of the talented young Mr George Travis, who writes horror fiction. Everyone is certain he’ll be the next Stephen King, except he’s been suffering from writer’s block lately. So, when he and his fiancée discover they have inherited the Black Raven Inn in New Hampshire, they decide to get away from it all … and a parade of hilarious, often creepy mishaps ensue! An ensemble of 35 students performed in the show, supported by a backstage crew of 13. The box-set, dark and stormy sound and lighting, and of course the many colourful characters, including ghosts, witches, werewolves, zombies and even a mummy, all helped to create a strong sense of mood at the Black Raven Inn. We congratulate all of the students involved on an excellent season. OPHELIA HOPKINS — SENIOR SCHOOL DRAMA STAFF A comic take on classic horror and mystery genre plays
