NEWS NEW PERMANENT SENIOR SCHOOL STAFF Luke Carey has rejoined our Science and PE departments, after returning to Australia following a short stint in the UK. In addition to teaching Science and Physical Education, Luke is heavily involved in rowing, taking over the role of Teacher-in-Charge, Rowing, from Tom Bowen, and he is a Year 7/8 Form Teacher. Janet Herbert is our new Head of the Centre for Learning. She comes to us from Caulfield Grammar School where she was a learning strategies teacher, a position she had held since 2008. Janet, who holds a Master of Education and a postgraduate Diploma of Education (Special and Inclusive Education) from Monash University, brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in managing students with a range of learning, social and emotional needs. Robert Kerins has joined our Design Technology department. Robert hails from Ireland, where most recently he was Department Manager and Teacher of Applied Technologies and Engineering at Balbriggan Community School, Dublin. Prior to teaching, Robert worked as a research and development operative in industry. Robert has coached rugby, and is a qualified indoor rock wall climbing instructor and a qualified hurling and Gaelic football coach. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Robert is a Year 9 Tutor. Dr Scarlet Luk has joined our English department. Dr Luk is originally from Melbourne. After completing a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne, Scarlet 38 Great Scot Issue 159 – May 2020 travelled to the USA, completing a Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy from Yale University, before being awarded a PhD in English from Yale at the end of 2019. Scarlet has recently returned to Melbourne to take up what is her first secondary teaching position. Dr Brandon Tilley has joined our English department. Dr Tilley, who is from the USA, has recently been awarded a PhD in English Literature from Harvard University, having completed an AB at the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Arts at Harvard. Brandon moved to Australia late last year and is taking up his first teaching position. Brent Woodlock has joined our Mathematics department from Camberwell Girls’ Grammar School, where he spent the previous two years as Head of Mathematics. Prior to this, Mr Woodlock taught at Ivanhoe Grammar School, Methodist Ladies’ College and Camberwell Grammar School. Brent has also spent time working as a project manager in the building industry both here and in the United Kingdom. In addition to his teaching role, Brent is a Year 9 Tutor.
