RENDERING, KEON-COHEN DINING HALL
IMPROVING OUR DINING FACILITIES
Over the summer vacation period the Boarders’ Dining
Hall underwent a major transformation, creating a space with
atmosphere and ambience more aligned with a restaurant
than a cafeteria.
At the same time, extensive works are continuing on the
redeployment of the Keon-Cohen Building into a dining hall for
boys and staff. This project will be the centrepiece of a new
market space behind the main Senior School Quadrangle.
The redeveloped Keon-Cohen Dining Hall will form the hub of
this precinct. Boys and teachers will gather to meet and eat,
and share news and ideas.
Works on the Dining Hall commenced in earnest at the end
of 2018. All excavation work is now complete, and pre-cast
panels for the basement have been installed. Within the Keon-
Cohen sub-floor, works are complete and temporary flooring
will be laid to allow works to continue before the final floor is
laid. Construction of the raised walkway on the east of the site
is well advanced, with services rough-in continuing. The next
phase will be to prepare for the basement slab to be laid.
The Keon-Cohen Dining Hall is named to honour the
outstanding generosity of Colin Keon-Cohen OBE CMG
(’25), who left his estate as a bequest to Scotch on his death
in 1982. His bequest forms a significant part of the Scotch
College Foundation Endowment Fund (corpus).
In a historic gathering of the Keon-Cohen clan on
Wednesday 28 November, Colin Keon-Cohen’s nephews,
Chester Keon-Cohen AM (’59) and Bryan Keon-Cohen AM
(’63), put their cardinal, gold and blue beribboned hammers
to good work in a memorable brick relocation ceremony.
Chester joined other key members of the School community
– School Council Chairman, the Hon. Dr David Kemp AC (’59),
Principal Tom Batty, Vice President of the Foundation and
Chair of the Property Committee, Michael Sim (’78), and 2018
School Captain, Charlie Schilling. I stood in for Foundation
President, Doug Lording (’64) who was unable to be present.
Six bricks were excised from the old building, each of
which will be inscribed with the name of one of the six people
listed above. The bricks will be incorporated in a plaque to be
unveiled at the opening ceremony.
The Development Office is raising funds to support this
project. If you would like to help bring it to fruition, please

ARCHIVES MUSEUM AND OSCA HOUSE
The upgraded and expanded Archives Museum and
OSCA House is a much anticipated project. The refurbishment
of both 2 and 3 Morrison Street with purpose-built facilities will
enable us simultaneously to safeguard the School’s history in
a more secure and attractive environment, and allow us also
to engage more closely and meaningfully with all members
of the Scotch Family – current, past and future. Its impact will
therefore be substantial and far reaching.
Currently, the project is awaiting final approval from the
Boroondara Council before an estimated commencement
date of July 2019.
To date we have secured $1 million of funding towards this
project’s goal of $1.5 million. If you can help to bring it home,
again, please contact me on +61 3 9810 4301.
