OSCA
OSMaD ’ S EXCITING 2023 PRODUCTION IS THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME
OSMaD

THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL WAS A TRIUMPH – NOW BRING ON THE HUNCHBACK !

We ’ re back ! December 2022 saw the fruition of two years ’ hard work and dedication by committee members , creatives , cast , crew and orchestra . The Scarlet Pimpernel was a visual feast and a tantalising tale for the ears .
Let ' s rewind for a moment . At the end of 2019 , OSMaD took on the great opportunity to flex its muscles by hosting the Adult Lyrebird Awards . We went on to win eight awards for Miss Saigon . In 2020 we announced and appointed our production team for The Scarlet Pimpernel – then everything stopped : almost . We continued to produce our Masterclass Series virtually and produced the live-streamed event , All Together Now ! which was a musical revue concert . Around this time we were reeling from the loss of Richard Beveridge (’ 61 ) – the heart and soul of OSMaD .
Outside our wheelhouse , we put on a concert in early 2022 . The end result was a special and unique experience , in that we were not only celebrating Richard ’ s life , but also celebrating the life of OSMaD and the incredible talent which has crossed our stage in the last 15 years .
The Scarlet Pimpernel – what a joy it was to work with a production team ( which changed many times – thanks to COVID ) which was so passionate in bringing this production to life . It was visually beautiful . The cast and creatives worked tirelessly and the fruits of their labour were magnificent .
I might be biased , but I ’ m pretty sure those who attended were simply mesmerised by what they saw . A huge heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who has continued to support OSMaD . Whether they were in the show , supporting the show – particularly members of the OSCA community who worked so hard to get this up and running – and audience members who came and saw the show : thank you . A particularly special thank you goes to the Principal , Dr Scott Marsh , who also attended and engaged with our community .
I ’ d like to welcome and congratulate our committee for 2023 : President – Katherine McDonald ; Vice President – Penn Valk ; Secretary – Damien Calvert ; Treasurer – Tristan Lawrence ; and committee members – Jan Goldsmith , Lucy Mason , Matthew Nutley , Ros Turnley , Suzi Cossar , David Barrell (’ 11 ), Christina Prickett , Caitlin Lamont and Daniel Ischia (’ 94 ).
We ' re now in full swing with our 2023 production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame , coming in December 2023 . Here ’ s our production team : Director – Joel Batalha ; Co-Music Directors – David Barrell (’ 11 ) and Ned Dixon ; Choreographer – Madeline Pratt .
If you have ever wanted to find a creative outlet with likeminded people , OSMaD is looking for people who are interested in being a part of our next production , The Hunchback of Notre Dame . If you know how to handle a needle and thread , or a hammer or a paint brush , we need you ! We ’ ll give you the skills and a positive and friendly environment in which to work . Please reach out via https :// osmad . com . au / contact . We look forward to welcoming new community members soon ! KATHERINE MCDONALD – OSMaD PRESIDENT , 2023
