PROGRAM AT SCOTCH
I ’ m writing as the new President of the Old Scotch Football Club . It is a proud and humbling opportunity to have become the 21st President of this great community club . I would like to acknowledge the outstanding role Tim Shearer (’ 85 ) played as club President for 16 years , leaving the club today in a much better position than when he started .
Our mission is to be the best club in the Victorian Amateur Football Association ( VAFA ), and two of our key goals are to create a supportive and safe environment for all our players , staff and supporters , and provide the best off-field football program in the VAFA .
In line with the theme of this Great Scot edition , I look outwards and welcome our members who come from outside Scotch College . We welcome players , coaches and volunteers from Methodist Ladies ’ College , Camberwell Sharks Junior Football Club , Camberwell High School and other parts of the footballing globe . Our club ’ s tapestry is much richer for their inclusion , making us a more diverse and greater community partner .
We welcome on board our new corporate partners , Biggin & Scott Boroondara , Chemist Warehouse , Grill ’ d , and player sponsors , Miss Intensity , InterAgri Group and Yeux Apparel . Thank you to Tony El Helou , Bruno Crisafi , Paul Sheer (’ 95 ), Simone Gnatt , Adrian McCorkell and Harry Jones .
In February we were the first VAFA club to host the Tackle Your Feelings Program , a mental health program to support our players . It was a great event attended by over 70 members . This complements our Three Seas counselling program , free for members . We thank Scotch College for allowing us to use their facilities . The Golf Day was held at Kew Golf Club in February with 76 participating . The day was a great success in no small part due to the efforts of Kate Tass . We ’ re grateful to the 19 hole sponsors
who financially backed the event , including Chadstone Ford which sponsored the hole in one competition again .
We welcomed new players and parents at information nights for the women ’ s Stars and men ’ s under 19 groups in March . Our season was officially launched in April at the Kooyong Tennis Club . A large crowd was in attendance for the breakfast , including entertaining guest speakers . We undertook a successful pre-season program , thanks again to Scotch College for their facilities . The program included a camp for 75 male / female players and officials at Queenscliff in February , which was a great way to welcome new members to the group . In March we held our practice matches against strong opposition to get our teams ready .
In round 1 , the Stars unfurled their 2022 Premier ‘ B ’ section premiership flag at McQueen Park ( aka Camberwell Sports Ground ) before their first ever Premier ‘ A ’ section match against West Brunswick , resulting in a 27-point victory . Our men started their season with a 61-point win over Caulfield Grammarians at Glen Huntly Oval . Round 2 saw the traditional Anzac Round match versus Collegians resulting in a narrow loss . The day kicked off with a great pre-match luncheon , my first as club President . This was followed by the official Anzac Day ceremonies and the match itself . This was a great opportunity to welcome guests from outside our club .
In June we will host our past players ’ pre-match luncheon , celebrating the 1973 Premer ‘ A ’ men ’ s 2nd XVIII premiership against University Blacks , the club whom we play on the day . In July we play traditional rivals Old Melburnians ( and other VAFA clubs ) at Scotch College in the annual carnival . It has already been a big year for our club , and we welcome all new members to embrace our community .
