On to Belgium , where we presented two concerts , including one at the Brussels Conservatoire , which was attended by the Australian Consul-General , who was moved and delighted . From Belgium we went on to England , and a visit to the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester . We gave performances at the Tung Auditorium in Liverpool and at Stoller Hall at Chetham ’ s School of Music in Manchester ( a joint concert with the Stockport Youth Orchestra ), where we also attended a lecture given by the composer , Adam Gorb . A composition by Henry Rogers ( bassoon ) was discussed as part of the lecture .
Manchester was a bit rainy , but going south to Stratfordupon-Avon saw us enjoying lovely weather as we visited
Shakespeare ’ s birthplace and admired the local architecture . We gave a much-appreciated performance at a school near Cambridge and attended evensong at King ’ s College Cambridge . This was particularly memorable as hearing that world-famous choir in its natural setting was truly magnificent .
We travelled on to London and attended a rehearsal with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and a concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall . This was particularly interesting as the orchestra played the Shostakovich Jazz Suite No 2 , which was also part of our repertoire for the tour . Our final two concerts in London were highly successful , and we received full audiences . One audience member was Peter
