get back there . I know I have made friends for life . In fact , I hope to visit my friends and see more of Indonesia after finishing Year 12 .’
JEREMY GRAY – YEAR 12
‘ My exchange was a very , very enriching experience . Frequenting Indonesia isn ’ t new to me , but this time around it left me mind-boggled – I ’ m sure now there are people who will have the boundless pleasure of traversing the world and still miss out on what we now haven ’ t .
‘ Frankly , I found Krida ’ s militaristic identity to be quite bewildering – bewildering , but compelling . Seeing first-hand the intensity of their lifestyle , attempting to embrace it and joining in their activities like traditional dance was rather enlightening . But more than that , the disposition of our partner students was so impressive it was almost suffocating ; their hospitality and willingness to involve us in their culture made learning the language truly a blast .’

Head of Bond House MS MELANIE PIVA said it had been a joy to have two Germans join the Bond House family during their exchange trip to Scotch . ‘ While the House system is very different to their own school ,’ she said , ‘ the boys made the Bond room their own , improving their table tennis skills and making new friends . Undoubtedly it was their humour , warm smiles and sense of fun that quickly made them honorary Bond boys . Hopefully they have made some lifelong Australian friends . We will miss them when they return to Germany .’
Host parent , MR IAN KLUCKOW , father of Nick (’ 20 ) and 2023 School Vice Captain Thomas Kluckow , thanked Scotch for persevering to make the German exchange happen this year . ‘ We have found it a valuable experience for our boys and have enjoyed being part of it ,’ he said . ‘ We think the exchange went well and know the boys have all benefited significantly from the program .’

MITTERMEIER from Germany , on exchange at Scotch in Term 1 reflected that ‘ Scotch College is a school which is very different to our school in Germany . The things that first stood out for us are the school uniforms , which are very fancy . We were stunned by the sheer size of the campus . We also like how modern some of the buildings look and how up-to-date the technical equipment is in the classrooms . The sports opportunities here are also fantastic . Last but not least , teachers and students are openminded and amazing .’
MS MIMI HOHLWEG , German Teacher in the Junior School , shared her experience : ‘ The three exchange students from Bogen in Germany visited our Junior School German classes on numerous occasions , acting as ambassadors for their home country and proving to be excellent intercultural communicators . They talked about Germany and being German , and our Years 3 to 5 really tired them out by asking lots of questions . When exhausted after a session , I asked if they needed a break for a day or two . They responded enthusiastically that they wanted to keep going . All in all , it has been " absolute Spitze " up in the Junior School both for our boys and our guests .’
