' Hurrah ! Hurrah !’ – I can almost hear some of the Old Boys sing , being the next line to the Foundation Day Song which opens with ' Foundation Day again is here ,' and which was printed in the Scotch record book as late as 2004 !
The song , of somewhat questionable literary merit , and sung to the tune of When Johnny Comes Marching Home , has not been sung at the Foundation Day Concert since 1986 – but if there was ever a time to revive it , it would have been 2022 . The last two Foundation Day Concerts were cancelled due to the pandemic , so , as the ‘ school uniting in song ’ only applies to boys in Years 10 , 11 and 12 , none of the boys participating had ever sung in a Foundation Day Concert at all .
There was a great spirit to the concert this year and a feeling of much anticipation from the boys as they realised that this really is quite a major event ! The concert opened with David Stanhope ’ s superb orchestration of Advance Australia Fair , written for the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and first performed by Scotch at the Foundation Day Concert at the Rod Laver Arena in 2001 .
The first verse was sung a capella by the Cardinals ( Human Nature sang it at the Olympics ) and the second verse was sung beautifully by voice teacher , Jo Blankfield , with the School and
