GRANDPARENTS ’ DAY 2022 –
The 2022 Year 7 Grandparents ’ Day was a very special event , as COVID had caused it to be postponed for a month , and there was a chance it would have to be cancelled . But it did go ahead , and it was a wonderful opportunity for grandparent / grandson fellowship . Here are two Year 7 boys ’ impressions of the day .
Everyone was thankful and excited for the time together and had big smiles under their umbrellas on the wet morning in May . My grandparents travelled an hour from the Mornington Peninsula and were very impressed by the brilliant performance of the Orchestra and Band in the Ian Roach Hall which kicked off the event .
Playing tour guide for my grandparents , we comprehensively explored the School , chatting as we went . My Grandad , Neil Gordon , attended Wesley College , and reflected on the many times he played hockey against the Scotch first team and how different the Montgomery pitch and stand were from the plain grass pitches of that time .
He said that the School was considerably different and had many more buildings .
My Nana , Lorraine Gordon , told me about her career in teaching and was impressed by the warmth of the teaching staff and students , particularly the friendliness between the boys of different year levels . Both my grandparents thought the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre for Science was world class and inspiring , but I was most excited to show them my favourite new Scotch addition , the Keon-Cohen Dining Hall .
