JUNIOR SCHOOL
Prime Minister and much to my joy I was chosen . Then we had to simulate a debate on a tax on sugar . It was great fun and I would most definitely have this joyful and educational experience again . I might even aim for Parliament when I am a big . YEVAN NAVARATNE
AT THE AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL
One very significant event on the Canberra trip for Year 6 was the visit to the Australian War Memorial . At the memorial , the students learnt important lessons about multiple wars , especially World War I and World War II . We were also taught about what life was like for soldiers in the trenches and stories about certain soldiers , and some dogs who fought in wars . We visited the roll of honour and were taught about some significant soldiers and entered the tomb of the unknown Australian soldier and reflected on the many soldiers from wars who will always be remembered . A PHENOMENAL EXPERIENCE
The Canberra trip , which was a phenomenal experience for all the boys in Year 6 , was filled with educational experiences ranging from Questacon to the Parliament House . The boys had a spectacular time staying with their friends and embracing the beautiful scenery of Canberra . They learnt a lot of things such as the history of coins , the Australian Government , the two great wars , and the history of our capital city , Canberra . We both learnt a lot about Australian history and how our government is run . We had a joyous and mindful experience by getting educated at Parliament House and having an enjoyable time at Questacon . We also really liked the National Dinosaur Museum and the enthusiastic paleontologists . LUCAS LEE and WILLIAM WANG

ACKNOWLEDGING AND REINFORCING OUR BOYS ’ RELATIONSHIPS

The Junior School teaching and nonteaching staff created a variety of enquiry opportunities for our boys to challenge male stereotypes . The classroom and specialist teachers worked in collaboration to create moments for our boys to acutely critique what they view , what they read , and of course what they do as boys . Curriculum and co-curriculum activities were unified around the skills needed to fortify the boys ’ character development , as well as identifying their families ’ values and ideas around masculinity . A leading feature of our approach was acknowledging and reinforcing the caring
and positive relationships that our boys already foster with each other , their teachers , their families and the wider community .
The work with the Junior School boys was informed by the Victorian Department of Education ’ s Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships Program . It served as a catalyst to educate and skill the boys in the development of respectful relationships , and to critique their own behaviours , perceptions and stereotypes .
