OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN KARTING , JUDO AND SAILING
Every year I am reminded that we have some extraordinary boys at our School . Not all of our students participate in the traditional sports we offer , and it is great they are able to pursue their passions away from our programs . We strongly encourage boys to pursue these interests , and support their journey . Here are three examples of notable achievements across our sports programs away from school .
Lewis Francis ( Year 7 ) spends a significant time on the motor race track , and is a two-time winner of the Australian Kart Championship . He has recently moved up to the premium junior level of karting in Australia , and has taken a huge step in his motorsport career .
Lewis is the youngest in the field , and recently spent time in Italy during the holidays training to improve his technical driving skills against the higher standard of competition . He does his best to balance school sport when not competing in the Australian Kart Championship . We look forward to seeing where his passion takes him in the coming years .
Alexander Ginaylo ( Year 8 ) has turned heads this year , winning
three gold medals at the Melbourne International , ACT Open and Sydney International judo competitions . He has worked tirelessly on developing his skills , and is taking a small break before he competes at the nationals in the middle of the year . Alexander is an immense talent and possesses great discipline and focus .
Dhanika Nanayakkara ( Year 11 ) was placed third , winning a bronze medal in the Laser 4.7 class at the Third Chief of Air Staff International Sailing Championship 2022 , held over four days in Karachi , Pakistan . Showing perseverance , focus and strategic prowess on the water Dhanika was able to secure his bronze in the final race on the final day .
This is his second international medal , his first bronze medal being won at the International Optimist Dinghy Association Championship , held in Oman in 2019 in the Silver Fleet . Dhanika has been an integral part of our sailing program and has enjoyed great success with the team as they qualified for Nationals in 2021 . STUART POWELL – DIRECTOR OF SPORT
