A march past by all three Pipe Bands heralded the opening , followed by the 85-member Intermediate Orchestra , the first of 14 ensembles to perform to a huge audience of picnicking parents and families in glorious sunshine . There was a wonderful spirit of optimism and hope as the lockdowns ended and the musical sounds of summer arrived .
Monday 6 December saw the Percussion Concert . This annual concert has taken place for more than 25 years , and holds a special place among those musicians who prefer to use sticks and hit things ! It is always very gratifying to see so many former percussionists come that special night . One particular performance is worthy of mention . Adam Pai ( Year 12 ) played the iconic work Fandango by Sarcich for percussion and piano . As the pianist was unavailable , the piano part was shared between staff marimba exponents , Jude Hallum and Harry Potocnik . Sheer brilliance !
Tuesday 7 December was the Summer Prom presented by the Symphony Orchestra . It was really the Winter Concert , that had been postponed to spring , and finally presented in summer . The program was Danzon No 2 by Marquez , Violin
