FIVE CONCERTS IN FIVE DAYS

SUNDAY ON THE MAIN : GLORIOUS MUSIC TO CAPTIVATE DELIGHTED FAMILIES
Following a year of cancellations and postponements , 2021 concluded with a flourish featuring five concerts in as many days , and involving hundreds of boys and families .
On Saturday 4 December the Scotch orchestra joined with Pro Musica ( conducted by me ) to present a concert of piano concertos by the Chinese composer , Chu Wanghua . Richard Liu ( Year 12 ) played the
Australian premiere of Chu ’ s Piano Concerto No 3 , City Boys with consummate skill and panache , while staff pianist , Lachlan Redd played Chu ’ s Piano Concerto No 2 with Pro Musica , and pianist and long-term friend of the department Caroline Almonte concluded the concert with Chu ’ s latest concerto , My Motherland .
Sunday 5 December was massive . The bands and younger ensembles in particular had not had a performance for nearly a year , so Sunday on the Main was born . The concert was suggested by Chris Farrands at a bands meeting , and it grew from there . It was hosted by the indubitably inimitable David Musk in a coruscating cream suit , and staged in front of the Green Grandstand , with the Chapel and Music School making a beautiful backdrop .
