TOM BATTY SCHOLARSHIP

Honouring 14 years of outstanding leadership
will also honour Tom ’ s outstanding commitment to the School during his principalship .
I have been fortunate to have worked closely with Tom and have learnt much from him as , together , we have looked to improve the School ’ s facilities and educational opportunities for every boy , in both the short and long term . He has a sharp intellect and an unparalleled understanding of boys ’ education and , with the support of Lee and his girls , has left an indelible mark on our School . This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Tom and his time at Scotch .
With the ribbon cut on the Tolson Centre we now look to deliver two important building projects for the School . The Boarding Project will transform boarding facilities on the Hill for boys , staff and boarding families . Improved accommodation for boys and staff , enhanced dining facilities and a new Boarding Family Centre for parents will significantly enrich the lives of all who call the Hill home . Greater opportunity for boys to gather and collide will seed the interactions that form the basis of both learning and communal living , as conversations and engagements struck during the day are pursued into evenings and across weekends , and lifelong friendships forged .
The Boarding Project demonstrates the School ’ s commitment to boarding ’ s place at the heart of a Scotch education . More can be read about these works in the Development section of this edition of Great Scot .
Our attention is also turning to a much-needed upgrade of the Main Oval Pavilion . The current pavilion , constructed in the 1960s , has served generations well but is tired and lacks many of the modern day amenities that help to drive sporting performance .
As in the past , we will look to our community to help us bring these important projects to fruition .
