In spite of the challenging times , I am in awe of our community ’ s willingness to support our School and its Foundation . While the interruptions to our lives haven ’ t been as pervasive in terms of time this year , clearly patience is running thin , and the restriction of many of our democratic liberties is taking a huge toll in terms of our wellbeing and mental health .
The oppressive feeling of restraint contradicts the pioneering notions of enterprise and self-improvement that have been instilled in us through our Scottish founders , and so we comply with health orders in our quest to return to better days : days without remote learning ; days where we can come and go as we please ; days where we can freely commute without masks ; and days where our community can come back together secure in the normal rhythms and patterns of the day .
The resilience of our donors , who have invested so generously in our School through good times and bad , is both heartening and uplifting . It gives great encouragement to the School Council and the Foundation Board , as they go about their work improving the School for every boy fortunate enough to attend it .
It was indeed wonderful that the community could come together this year for one special moment – the opening of the Tolson Centre on 6 May . This new home for our invaluable collections serves as a significant reminder to the School of the importance of its past as it charts its future .
OSCA House signals just how important our alumni have been , and will continue to be , to the School , and the new Scotch Shop is tangible evidence of our commitment to enterprise on the campus . Our boys are the beneficiaries of a refreshed range of sports uniforms , our parents can now conveniently purchase both pre-owned and new uniforms on campus and the School – and the Scotch College Foundation – are now beneficiaries of commercial returns that will help to deliver important initiatives , such as the Scotch College Indigenous Scholarship Program .
Our Bequest Program , so thoughtfully and caringly managed by Sandra Dick , continues to serve the School and the Foundation well . Old Boy Gilbert Albury ( SC 1951-56 ) left the proceeds of his estate to endow
a perpetual Indigenous scholarship in his name , and Old Boy Keith Pralle ( SC 1922-27 ), through his wife Peg , bequeathed a considerable amount to endow a perpetual scholarship in his name , with the balance being directed to the Scotch College Foundation corpus .
Regretfully , we were unable to deliver our Rioli Family Indigenous Scholarship 24 hour giving day , despite two false starts in May and August . We have determined to host the dinner and giving day in late May next year – hopefully , as mentioned earlier , a time when we are living in more certain times . I personally would like to thank and acknowledge our generous matched donors who have made the giving day possible .
The Foundation is delighted to be facilitating the delivery of the Tom Batty Scholarship , to be awarded to boys with a proficiency in Mathematics . Not only will the scholarship make Scotch a reality for deserving boys , it
