HELPING FAMILIES IN CRISIS REBUILD STABILITY
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Arlington has seen a growing number of families facing housing instability. In response, the Homeless Engagement And Resource
Team( HEART)— a collaboration between the City and DRC Solutions— continues to serve as a lifeline for families on the verge of or experiencing homelessness.
One young mother in her early 20s, along with her toddler, first connected with HEART in September. Although they didn’ t initially meet eligibility requirements for services, HEART provided vital information and resources to prepare for future assistance. When the family reconnected in January after becoming unhoused, they were quickly enrolled in services and matched with a housing program for families the following month— moving them from crisis to stability in a matter of weeks.
Another case involved a single mother and her three children, who had been living in a public park restroom for shelter. After completing an assessment with HEART, the family was enrolled in services. The mother found employment, and HEART quickly matched the family to a Rapid Rehousing Program. With rental assistance and support, they transitioned from homelessness to a stable living situation. Through compassionate outreach and swift action, HEART empowers families to regain their footing and build a path toward long-term stability.
