COMMUNITY IMPACT HIGHLIGHT
HOLDING ON TO HOPE
Marsha needed steel toe shoes to start a job at a warehouse. She was referred to WFTR Job Readiness program for items in our boutique. Our focus is to have items in our boutique that will serve the client with what they need. At times, we shop at our local thrift stores to get essential items that are frequently needed. While serving the client she told her story about fighting an addiction resulting in the cause of her losing custody of her newborn. She was determined to get her child back and stated she had gotten away from how she was raised. We had one pair of women’ s steel toe shoes that was her exact size. Providing this service helped her to get on the right track and establish a solid working history and a foundation that helped her to gain custody of her child. This is a testament to how our services fulfill the community’ s needs and provide hope for the future.
SUPPORTING LINDA’ S INDEPENDENCE
Linda has been one of our food service clients for the last two and half years. She’ s been living independently and able to drive herself to various places she needed to go. She uses our food pantry through our drive through services. However, recently, due to the increase in cost of auto insurance, she was forced to get rid of her car. Linda called to thank WFTR for all the help we’ ve provided but would no longer be able to pick up food.
WFTR is committed to addressing the essential needs of the Central Arlington community, with an initial focus on expanding services for seniors who may be chronically ill, disabled, or facing difficulties with cooking or transportation. To continue supporting Linda, we arranged for her groceries to be delivered, as we are a vital resource to help maintain her self-sufficiency.
