50 YEARS OF CDBG IMPACT IN ARLINGTON

HONORING A LEGACY OF IMPACT
To commemorate this historic occasion, the City of Arlington hosted its inaugural Community Impact Symposium in August 2024, held at City Hall and the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library. The event brought together city leaders, HUD officials, community partners, and residents to reflect on five decades of achievements and envision the path ahead.
Key highlights from the celebration included:
• Panel discussions featuring past and present community development leaders.
• A trolley tour showcasing CDBG-funded project sites, including affordable housing developments, public facilities, and nonprofit service centers.
• An awards presentation recognizing local organizations and staff for outstanding contributions to equitable development.
A PROVEN TOOL FOR COMMUNITY PROGRESS Over the last 50 years, Arlington has invested CDBG funds into vital programs that have:
• Improved public infrastructure in underserved neighborhoods.
• Supported housing rehabilitation and homeless services.
• Expanded access to youth programs, senior services, and job training.
• Strengthened partnerships with local nonprofits to address evolving community needs.
LOOKING AHEAD
While the 50th anniversary provided a moment to reflect, it also reaffirmed Arlington’ s commitment to equitable growth. As the City continues to implement its Consolidated Plan goals, the CDBG program remains a vital engine for advancing inclusive, resilient, and opportunity-rich neighborhoods.
“ CDBG was the missing between fund and salary of an Executive Director for Dental Health Arlington. Thank you! Thousands of people received dental care thanks to CDBG. Trey Yelverton oversaw our grant. He’ s the best!!”
