The purpose of the All Japan Student English presentation contest is to improve the skill of English and logical thinking, and communication with other university students.
I participated in this contest as one of the my seminar activities. We were allowed to participate as a team, so I made a team with Yosuke Yoshioka and Aika Mine. To do a presentation at the presentation contest in Tokyo we needed to pass the first selection. I was sure that we would be able to pass first selection easily because we were a well balanced team.
In this contest, we could chose one topic to make presentation from three options.
1. Appeal Japanese night sightseeing (entertainment, amusement) to foreigners.
2. Sell Asian product to Europe and US.
3. Protect the earth. Suggest new educational program to learn about environment.
At first, topic1 seemed easy to make plan, but we found it difficult to come up with a completely new idea. Japan and Japanese sightseeing companies already had lots of night entertainment for foreigners.
Also, we were not interested in topic2, I thought it takes much time to research about Asian product/country. There are various products in Asia that should be sold more and more.
Environmental problems had generated much discussion and had been of great importance all over the world. For example, global warming is the great concern of the world.
To solve these problems, everyone should raise awareness of environmental issues and how we can work to protect our world for the future. Many people said that they are interested in the environment, but when they were asked whether they have done anything, most answers were negative.
For example, many of us buy bottles of water or juice each and every day.
Some people might think that these actions do not affect our environment too much, but with the majority thinking like that, our planet is surely doomed.
Therefore, learning about the environment from childhood and allowing this knowledge to take root in children’s lives is important. Although there are some educational programs about the environment for kids, children hardly participate in them willingly. This is because these programs are not attractive to kids. We needed to come up with an idea that children are interested in, moreover, Yosuke was interested in environment problems so much. I wanted to make education program by myself. I wanted to make promoting strategy for our program, so we decided to work on topic3.
