Thorpe Seminar

The goal of this seminar is to significantly contribute to the development of 21st century skills through a variety of active learning opportunities in English.

In the first semester of my 3rd year, we participated in a simulation of the United Nations. This cooperative, learning experience allowed us to confront a global issue in English from the perspective of an assigned country. Through this experience, I appreciated different viewpoints, recognized the frustration of negotiation, and developed a broader view of the human side of international relations and diplomacy.

In the second semester of their 3rd year, I joined eighty other university students from around Japan at the annual Asia Community Engagement conference. At this conference, we worked together in English to solve a variety of corporate problems introduced by some of Japan’s leading companies.

In 4th year, I participated in the JEMUN conference again. I put my previous experience to use in the conference. Also, as graduation project, I made a graduation magazine.

Why I chose this seminar?

When I was a 2nd year student I was wondering which seminar class is good for me, how my seminar affects to job hunting? I wanted to have great experiences, but I was not sure what I should do. Also, I knew that I wouldn't participate in any experienced events, if I didn't choose a seminar that offered experienced events. Moreover, I needed a person who motivates me too.
