Theoretical Foundations of Nursing
This course addresses behavioral health disorders and the nurse ' s role in assisting patients to achieve and maintain optimum behavioral health . Content encompasses neurobiological , psychosocial , cultural , and spiritual perspectives . Effective therapeutic communication skills , the nurse-patient relationship , and the nursing process are applied to the care of patients across the lifespan . Emphasis is placed on the role of the nurse in promoting person-centered care and maintaining a culture of safety on the behavioral health unit . The role of the clinical nurse leader in behavioral health will be explored .
This course focuses on the physical , psychological , social , spiritual and cultural forces that influence the health of the adult population . It combines clinical and theory and introduces nursing basic concepts and frameworks ( communication , safety , organization , critical thinking , clinical judgement , and the nursing process ). Additionally , this course will also introduce common conditions found in healthcare . Students practice competencies in communication , assessment , nursing interventions , and documentation in a variety of basic acute care clinical settings . Simulation is incorporated as an adjunct to the clinical experience .
This course examines knowledge development in nursing . The relationships among nursing knowledge , borrowed knowledge , research education , and current practice are emphasized . Students develop a personal philosophy and theoretical foundation for their practice .
