This course combines maternal and pediatric health where students will develop assessment , care-planning , communication and leadership skills in the context of caring for childbearing and childrearing families in contemporary society . The focus of learning centers on inpatient labor and delivery and postpartum settings , however the course also addresses related issues such as family planning . All topics are considered in the context of the Universal Rights of Respectful Maternity Care . Students then transition into the study of unique health and developmental needs of infants , children and adolescents . The course is designed to develop perspectives on wellness and illness in children , emphasizing family-centered care that incorporates screening , teaching and health counseling . Topics are related to growth and development , health promotion , safety , normal and altered physiologic processes as they affect childbearing and childrearing families . Experiences in the classroom and clinical settings enable the student to integrate cultural sensitivity , clinical reasoning , advocacy , communication skills , and evidence-based therapeutic nursing interventions for women , children , and families .
This integrated pathophysiology and pharmacology course provides a foundation for understanding disease process in conjunction with pharmacological therapy to treat and manage disease . General pathophysiological and pharmacological principles will be presented as they apply to all of the macro concepts identified by the Gwynedd Mercy University Frances Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions . Students will discuss cultural sensitivity , clinical reasoning , therapeutic nursing interventions and communication skills as they apply to clinical practice .
