Yet, how many Christian parents are well read scripturally? How many of us are plain lazy, and prefer to parent as we are taught by other fallible Christians, rather than the Word of God? You know what I mean…like the parent who hears, ‘Spare the rod, spoil the child’; so uses a switch to discipline EVERY time, rather than being well read in scripture to see God’s grace and of how he deals with people and situations with the appropriate response; not always the same response. We can’t be lazy Christians period, and this includes the part of us which is a Christian parent. We should be light and salt in the world and this includes the upbringing of our children – maturely dealing with each situation and child individually, talking things through and taking the time to be close in our relationship with God and our children. Yes, it takes more time and effort but is so worth it… Do we really want Jesus to call us a wicked and lazy servant in regards to the precious children He has entrusted us with?
