Profi le PLAYER PROFILE - GIRLS A RHEA PURVI SARAVANAN GPJ: Who prompted you to take up golf out of all the other sports? RS: I started playing golf when I was 5 and half years old. All the credit goes to my parents who kept me motivating before I fell in love with the game. GPJ: Who prompted you to take up golf out of all the other sports? SS: My Father Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh, a Class A Coach and a professional golfer prompted me to play golf. I started playing golf in 2008 at the age of three and half years at Royal Calcutta Golf Club. GPJ: When did you start playing Junior Golf Tournaments? SS: I played my fi rst tournament - the IGU South Zone in 2011 when I was Six and a half years old. GPJ: How do you manage your time between golf and studies? SS: My School DPS has been very supportive. When I miss school I take missed notes from my friends. SNEHA’S FAVOURITE! RS:I am able to manage golf and studies pretty well. My school has been very supportive. I spent most of my time at the TSG Academy at Zion Hills, Kolar training with my coach Tarun Sardesai. I am able to study on my own, taking some help from my parents, so balancing academics and golf is not a problem. GPJ: What has been the role of IGU? RS: I have been playing IGU tournaments for many years now. Also, IGU has given a great platform at the national level along with the experience of handling tough situations. GPJ: What are your future plans? RS: I plan to become a professional golfer and reach the highest level possible. GPJ: What’s in your bag? RS: Golf has taught me to deal with different situations effectively on the course and in my real life. GPJ: Tell us about your day-to-day fi tness regime. RS: I joined YOS, a team of sports health specialists, a few months back, and they are helping me get stronger with systematic and scientifi c workouts to stay injury-free. Sports Science is the strengthening part of my fi tness. Prehab is the routine I do every day to prevent myself from getting injured. At the academy, specialists are always to sure that I am doing everything right. RHEA’S FAVOURITE! SS: IGU is the main body for Golf in India that encourages junior golf in the country. GPJ: Whats in your bag? SS: Playing Golf regularly has made me disciplined, focussed and has enhanced my decision making Skills GPJ: Your advice to other Junior Golfers. SS: The only road for success is when you are able to learn golf in the way your coach is training. SS: Fitness is the key for every sport. I exercise every morning at Home and do Cycling on regular basis. I also go to the gym 3 Days in a Week.
