Golf like a Pro: Player and Matkovich Version 1 | Page 10
DAY 8
Destination: Cape Town
……………………………………………………………………………
Today you will play on the Arabella Golf Course.
The course borders a natural lagoon and the
Kogelberg Nature Reserve. Peter Matkovich has
designed a course with spectacular views
encompassing links, parkland and coastal aspects.
The broad fairways on soft hills are a challenge and a
pleasure to play for expert and amateur golfers alike.
Afterwards you will go on a vineyard trip.
The Cape Winelands consists of several wine
growing regions producing a large variety of wines,
using various methods of viticulture. The Wine
Route allows visitors entrance into selected Private
Estates to taste wines and visit cellars.
The journey continues over Franschhoek Pass and
into the Franschhoek Valley, where in 1688 the
French Huguenots were granted land to further
develop the wine industry of the Cape. Franschhoek
Village, where some of the finest South African
restaurants are located, is surrounded by mountains
and is reminiscent of a French village.
Continue to Paarl past the Groot Drakenstein
Prison. It is from here that Nelson Mandela walked
into freedom in 1990.
The town of Paarl derives its name from huge granite
boulders that shimmer in the sunlight like pearls, after
a shower of rain. The main street is lined with shady
oak trees and historical buildings, some dating back to
the 18th century.
