Julianne Makes it a Double Celebration It was a double celebration for Manor Park with the golf club celebrating its 100th birthday and local golfer Julianne Alvarez winning the New Zealand women’s amateur championship on the same weekend. Julianne, who qualified third with scores of 75-73 – 148, defeated Hanna Seifert of Waikato 7/6 in the 36-hole final at Manawatu Golf Club in Palmerston. The 16-year-old became the second Manor Park golfer to win the New Zealand amateur and follows in the footsteps of two-time winner Lynnette Brooky. Technically, Lynnette represented The Grange club in Auckland when she won her first national title in 1990, but officially flew the flag for Manor Park when she repeated the dose in 1993. “It feels amazing,” Julianne said. “I’m on cloud nine at the moment. “It’s really cool to be part of the history of this event. There are some great names on the cup, legends of New Zealand Golf, and to add my name to that history is a real honour.” Julianne, a member of the New Zealand women’s team for the Queen Sirikit Cup, becomes the eighth player from a Wellington club to win the New Zealand amateur championship. Prior to Julianne’s victory, Sarah Nicholson was successful in 2004. 18 The Golf Marketing Professionals www.golfindustrycentral.com.au
