GOLDEN ISLES PLANNING Food + Drink
Certified Burger
Go where the locals go for great burgers
and more. Certified Burgers and Beverage
may be St. Simons Island’s casual burger
joint, but the food is anything but basic.
Since it opened in July 2016, Certified
Burgers and Beverage has gained a following
for its locally raised, grass-fed burgers and
robust beer selection.
Chef David Carrier’s menu reflects his
dedication to quality and his global resume
(like the Oaxaca burger, a chorizo patty
topped with avocado, cilantro, and pickled
red onions). House-cured sausages and
hand-cut burgers reflect the restaurant’s
commitment to quality. Certified Burgers
and Beverages isn’t just for burger lovers —
the restaurant also serves fresh salads and
sides, and caters to gluten-free, vegetarian,
and vegan eaters. And if you’ve ever
wondered what a Canuck burger could be
(hint: it’s topped with Canadian bacon and
poutine), Certified Burgers is the place
for you. certifiedburgersandbeverage.com

Mellow
Mushroom
When you go to Mellow Mushroom , in
the Village on St. Simons Island, be sure to
see Blanche. You can’t miss her on the back
patio. The stately 300-year-old oak tree —
recognized by the Live Oak Society — is
the centerpiece of the restaurant. Lively art
and design, like the soaring ceiling, repur-
posed etched-glass windows and chairs made
from recycled Coca-Cola bottles, enhance
the eclectic atmosphere. After taking in
the welcoming vibe, enjoy the menu of
hand-tossed, stone-baked pizzas and other
delicious fare, along with a robust selection
of beers (including Georgia favorites) and
bourbon selections. Two happy hours
(between 2–6 p.m. and 9 p.m.–closing)
keep things upbeat. mellowmushroom.com
