Grandma Rosa had to stay in the Hospital for a long time. The
doctors gave her medicine that made her better, but because the
illness affected her inner ears, her hearing got bad.
The doctor gave her a hearing aid, and he said, “This will help
you a lot, but sometimes you will not hear certain sounds that
sound similar to one another. You might think you hear the
letter B, but people will say the letter P. Or, you might think
you hear the letter as B when people would say the letter G.”
“Oh, dear! What will they think when I can’t hear what they
say?”
“They will have to be patient and repeat the words that you
can’t hear,” the doctor said, “Or they will have to change the
tone of their voice when they speak.”
Grandma Rosa sadly sighed, but she replied, “Well, it’s still
better than not hearing anything at all.”
When her daughter took her home from the hospital, she was
tired, but she was happy to be home. She pulled her favorite
