hroughout this academic year, Go Connect organised 40 events dedicated to encouraging students to think more globally and be more

culturally aware. Events are open to all international students and UK student. The main purposes of those events were to integrate new and old students and also raise awareness of various cultures around campus. Some of the events that were organised in the first semester are: welcome picnics in summer and in September, Quiz night, a trip to Hull Fair, various language bites, bonfire night trip, Victorian Market, Beverley festival, film night, Christmas gathering and orchestra nights. These events have been designed to incorporate local culture and interaction amongst international students.

All events had a high number of participants with an average attendance rate of 109 students. The first semesters events had some notable attendances; 250 students attending the September welcome picnic, 210 attended the Quiz Night, 74 students went to Victorian Market and 84 to Beverley festival and 58 members attended the Christmas gathering.

Semester 1 began with our annual International Welcome Weeks in June, July, August and September. Our volunteers welcomed in over 1,500 students to Hull with several traditional Picnics and Music events at the Dennison Centre. Members of the International Community in Hull performed a variety of cultural songs for new students to enjoy.

emester 2 has been just as busy as the first! With just as many events and even bigger culture events this semester has been the highlight of the year.

Once again we began the New Year with the January International Welcome Week where our new exchange students were introduced to Hull campus and the British culture. In February we started our cultural celebrations with our annual Chinese New Year Event which had over 350 students attending. The event had a variety of traditional performances such as a Lion Dance, Tai Chi and other Chinese songs. In addition there were 6 interactive workshops for students to participate such as Calligraphy writing, Tangram Puzzles, Chinese lantern riddles plus a Chinese Buffet free to ticket holders. In March we celebrated the Brazilian Carnival festival. Our Carnival Day included traditional Brazilian food and music. We also had a brazilian film screening and football match in the afternoon. Throughout the semester we had the monthly Language Bite sessions for students to learn a variety of different languages for free. These sessions are to encourage student to develop their language skills. We also had a photography competition for students to showcase their skills with a camera. We ended the year with the first of our annual International Culture Festival. This was a 3-day event to celebrate culture on campus, including a flag parade, Culture Bazaar and photo exhibition. Over 1,000 people attended and over 10,000 engaged through our social media platforms (see page3-4).
