World Of Work Week 2014
8
Hull University Business School (HUBS) is running its 6th annual World of Work Week during 3rd – 7th March. The week consists of a series of career focused events designed to give HUBS students the edge in a competitive jobs market. Delivered by a mixture of career professionals, external guest speakers and HUBS alumni, the events cover a broad range of career topics.
Students can gain advice on different aspects of the recruitment process such as applications, assessment centres and interviews to help prepare them for the real thing. There are also events delivered by alumni designed to give an insight into their careers which include global organisations such as JP Morgan and Accenture, whilst local entrepreneurs will be inspiring our students and providing guidance on the risks and rewards of setting up your own business.
The sessions taking place on Thursday have a focus on networking for career success
with a practical workshop on how to use Linkedin for career advantage, and advice on face-to-face networking including a chance to practice those skills with real employers during a ‘speed networking’ evening event. The importance of networking to establish career contacts is something that we continually stress to our students given that a high proportion of jobs secured are unadvertised.
This year a number of alumni and students on work placements will be contributing to a daily blog giving an insight into their working week. Alumni working for organisations including Deloitte, Royal Mail and 20th Century Fox (Los Angeles), and our placement students at L’Oreal and Airbus (Madrid) will be providing blog content throughout the week.
Events are strictly only open to HUBS students. For full details on all events running during WoW week plus event sign up please visit http://hubs.hull.ac.uk/wow2014/.
