Blackpool BC - Council working with GMB union on well- being and reducing absence
The take-up of unpaid leave was under four days . This was less than the five days that was put into the budget savings , putting more pressure on localised budgets .
Take up of VR was higher than expected and this has resulted in some employees being taken off risk , including employees within leisure .
During the last financial year , the cost of absence was approximately £ 4million .
The council is looking to establish a joint working group to look at ways of improving employee health and well-being and reducing absence .
Loomis - Union plan full consultation with members
Loomis has approached the GMB to begin a consultation regarding potential changes to members ’ terms and conditions .
Once we have a draft proposal to share with members , we will begin a full and thorough consultation . It is only after this consultation , and any further negotiations with the company , that the GMB will even consider our position on the changes .
Members are being kept up to date via bulletins .
Liverpool University Hospitals ( L20 Branch ) Appeal submitted for collective grievance
We have continued to meet with management in Liverpool Clinical Laboratories regarding restarting the organisational change that was paused early last year due to the Covid Pandemic .
We have met with management after members submitted a collective grievance with the Trust stating that they are opposed to the changes and that they believe the change would lead to a change of contract .
We have now received the outcome of the grievance which staff do not agree to . An appeal has now been submitted and we are waiting for dates to be set to hear the appeal .
Cammell Laird - Branch Z44 - Union working with employer to deliver change
Ongoing meetings meetings have taken place on site , mainly to discuss the ongoing bid for the Mersey Ferry contract and the new UK Flagship . If successful , these contracts could provide stability for the next few years and bridge the gap until the government awards the new National Fleet Solid Support contract which should help several UK shipyards as well as Cammell Laird .
It will be interesting to see how they perform in their bid considering that we agreed to their request to work with them and deliver change . This change was a fundamental part of the recent restructure including the VR scheme which is intended to make them more competitive and efficient in a very competitive market .
Together Housing Employer testing unions on recognition agreement
Talks with recognised Trade Unions saw the recognition agreement ready to be signed , then the employer decided that they now wished to incorporate all those non members into a works council .
This obviously did not sit well with the Trade Unions and animated discussions ensued .
Cheshire West Recycling ( C20 Branch ) Unions start consultative ballot on pay offer
Joint Trade Unions met with management in March , on the back of the pay claim that the Unions submitted for a 4 % increase across all grades and some harmonisation and improvement on t & cs for the benefit of members .
Management presented a proposal , but this does not meet the pay claim with some staff receiving 1 % and some staff receiving 2 % with a slight improvement in sick pay allowance . We responded on the back of the recent inflation figures and asked that as management has not stated the offer as full and final that we would need improvement in the % increase before balloting members .
We have now received a response from management who have stated that to look at increasing the % further , they would have to look at the removing some of the improvements to the sick scheme . GMB & Unite have now started a consultative ballot on the pay offer .
