BUDDY PROGRAM
The GMAQ Executive has approached Golf
Qld in relation to assisting struggling regional
clubs by nominating a Metropolitan buddy
club for regional clubs to assist where
possible. In addition, this will support the GQ
Club Support Program. The overall goal for
GMAQ is to spread the message that GMA
is an organisation focussed on developing
managers and in turn clubs. This may also be
an opportunity for GMAQ to attract regional
managers and clubs as members.
INFORMATION ON THE
BUDDY PROGRAM:
The key focus is for
GMAQ to assist in
“Enhancing Club Health”.
“This initiative will look
to link participating
larger metropolitan
and regional golf clubs
with smaller golf clubs
throughout Qld. Once
linked, it is hoped
there will be a mutual
understanding between
Buddy Clubs to work
together and assist one
another where ever
possible.
Assistance that larger
metropolitan clubs could
offer their designated “Buddy
Club/Clubs” may include;
• Sharing of resources, knowledge, and
systems.
Direct financial assistance to a “Buddy Club” is
not an expectation, nor will it be a requirement
to be involved with this program. However,
the support the regional club requires may be
determined by the GQ Club Support Officer
along with the most effective way to assist the
club. This may require an onsite visit (possibly
along with the GQ Club Support Officer) which
may also result in an operational review
and report being presented to the club for
consideration by the Metro Manager. An onsite
meeting of this nature may also include a local
golf club forum eg. 3-4 hour meeting/seminar
with other local golf clubs in attendance.
We see this starting as a pilot Buddy Club
program initially. Then GQ may wish to
conduct a case study on the performance and
if successful and/or beneficial, may be rolled
out on a larger scale. If it is
continued, there may be
a further opportunity to
engage the GCSAQ to
also provide support.

• The Metropolitan Golf Club manager to
attend the buddy club (once or twice per
year – as determined) where the cost for
travel/accom etc to be picked up by GQ.
