GMAQ - Golf Management Australia Queensland GMAQ Spring 2018 | Page 6
FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK
BY AARON MUIRHEAD
I
t has been a very busy year
with many excellent GMAQ
events so far and more to
follow including the AGM
which is only days away at the
time of writing this report.
The main focus this year,
from GMA standpoint, is the
compilation of the ‘One GMA’
model that has dominated
meetings, not only at National
level, but also at state level to
ensure that the overall model
benefits the GMA brand and
also is beneficial for GMAQ
members.
ONE GMA MODEL
As such, GMAQ has been
consulted regularly through
Jim’s attendance at selected
State Executive meetings, as
well as the initial presentation to
GMAQ members at Maroochy
River Golf Club early this year.
With this thorough process
in place, the GMAQ State
Executive were provided with a
‘One GMA – Business Case’ for
our consideration on the 1st
September 2018, which was
accepted by the Executive and
following the meeting, emailed
to members.
• There will be no
constitutional changes
to GMAQ, with current
Queensland members,
remaining members of
GMAQ.
• GMAQ will maintain and
hold complete ownership
over all existing retained
earnings and assets. (This
includes any accrued interest
on retained earnings).
• GMAQ will not be providing
any ‘seed’ funding to the
model.
Following the distribution of this
documentation nationally, the
State Executive has also recently
conducted a further meeting
with GMA to clarify aspects of
the business case and discuss
the next steps. • GMAQ members will
maintain all their current
member benefits, with
some areas of member
benefits growing, particularly
regarding professional
development opportunities.
The appointment of GMA’s first
ever full-time Executive Officer
was certainly pivotal to not
only drive current GMA related
activities, but to develop the
‘One GMA – Business Case’. With the above in mind, the
GMAQ State Executive have
determined it is supportive of
the proposed model and would
like to proceed with the ‘One
GMA’ model for the 2019 and
2020 calendar years – beginning
1st January 2019. Key aspects of
the proposed model include; • GMAQ will maintain the
ability to support GMAQ
members with international
conference subsidies which
will still be managed at the
discretion of the GMAQ State
Executive.
Since that time, GMAQ has
been working closely with
GMA, and in particular GMA
Executive Officer Jim Cail, in the
development of a ‘One GMA –
Business Case’ to ensure any
movement towards this model
is in the best interest of GMAQ
members. • GMAQ will outsource all
operational activities to GMA
for a period of two years via a
services agreement. With GMA
funding all member investment
(benefit), the model also
provides for GMA to obtain all
GMAQ revenue opportunities
over that two-year period.
As previously communicated,
the ‘One GMA’ project is aimed
at enhancing the current
structure of Golf Management
Australia across the country
whilst creating efficiencies and
therefore being able to raise
the level of support provided to
members.

• The GMAQ State Executive
will still play an active role
in supporting the delivery
of member benefits moving
forward.
• GMAQ will have a locally
based part time ‘human
resource’ presence in
Queensland, to support the
membership and assist in
